HAIR TRANSPLANT

Hair loss is giving people a great loss in their self-esteem with men and women. People who are experiencing this problem are having an enormous decrease in their quality of life and their own image is starting to make their life unbearable.

Hair loss can be caused by many different factors. With that, one of the most common cause of hair loss is androgenetic alopecia (genetic hair loss). Men type hair loss is a known fact, about one of every two men is suffering from this and the women are having hair loss problems especially after menopause.

It seems like there are countless solutions to the hair loss problem… From magical ways to the nauseatening procedures, there are loads of solutions. Varied hair lotions made with strained yogurt and flour or hair care masks are giving people promises about a powerful effect which we highly doubt.

But science of medicine is offering you a real solution;

The Follicular Unit Extraction known as FUE is most certainly the safest alternative to regain the glory of your hair that has been missing for a while.

What is FUE Hair Transplantation?

It is a process in which hair is taken from the back of the head and then transplanted into thinning or bald areas.
This method allows for the re-implantation of your own hair. Healthy hair follicles are used to reconstruct decreasing hair density in a meticulously performed procedure.

How is the hair transplantation being done with the FUE method?

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) involves extracting individual hair follicles from the donor area (from the back and sides of your head) using a special motorized micro punch. The extracted follicular units are stored and then implanted one-by-one in the bald area without leaving any scars.
The hair transplant surgeon then makes tiny cuts made with custom-made surgical blades made of sapphire to suit each patient’s needs.
The hair follicles can then be placed very carefully into small holes created in the bald area. After all hair grafts have been transplanted, the back of the scalp where hairs were taken from will be covered with a bandage for 24 hours post-FUE treatment.

How long does the hair transplant treatment take?

A hair transplant procedure typically takes between four and eight hours.

Is there any pain during hair transplant surgery?

Hair transplants are typically performed using a local anaesthetic, which ensures a painless procedure from start to finish. The process is primarily pain-free.  However, some might feel a tiny amount of discomfort when the anaesthetic is initially injected.
Most people say they feel a bit of pressure or pulling during the procedure, but not any pain.
In addition, many of the patients get bored during the treatment and most of them fall asleep.

Do you want to be under light sedation before undergoing your hair treatment?

Local Anesthesia with a “Needle” also makes some people very uncomfortable, mostly those with a “Needle Phobia”. In this case, the patient needs to be sedated before the local anesthesia.

If you wish, we can give you a medication that has a calming effect on the nervous system to relieve symptoms of anxiety and stress.

You will initially feel relaxed and drowsy, but will still be conscious and able to respond to the doctor’s instructions.

What are the advantages of the FUE method?

  • FUE is the safest and most advanced hair transplant procedure available.
  • The FUE technique leaves no scars, the donor site does not need stitches and heals on the same day.
  • Leaving a natural and aesthetically pleasing result.
  • It’s pain-free and effective.

What to do and what not to do before treatment?

  • Patients should stop taking aspirin two weeks before treatment.  In the last week, patients must stop taking any “blood-thinning” medicine.
  • Let us know if you are currently taking, or have recently taken, any medication, or if you have any allergies to any medication.

The following substances are not permitted:
• Painkillers such as Apranax, Voltaren and Vermidon (alternative brand names are Minoset and Novalgin)
• Multivitamin tablets containing ginseng, ginkgo biloba, and coenzyme Q,
• All diet products.
• Avoid alcohol and cigarettes at least a week before and after the treatment. Smoking can hinder blood flow to the skin and slow down the
healing process

  • You should share information with us if you have diabetes, heart or blood pressure issues
  • Please do not cut your hair before the surgery as the team at the hospital will do this.

Clothing during and after the treatment

During and for some time after the treatment, patients should wear comfortable clothing that is easy to open and does not need to be pulled over the head – this is essential for their comfort and well being.

How should I treat scabbing after hair transplant surgery?

During a hair transplant, tiny incisions are made in the scalp to insert the hair follicles. Immediately after surgery, the human immune system begins to close the small wounds on the scalp. The crust that forms is also a protection against dirt and dust. The healing process continues under the crust, which is why the crust must remain on the scalp for a period of time. To ensure that this healing process runs smoothly, patients who have undergone a hair transplant should follow certain rules and guidelines.

Who can resist the temptation to touch the scab of a wound and help it come off with your fingers ?!

This temptation must be resisted in any case after a hair transplant, even if it itches from time to time. Especially in the first few days after the hair transplant, the grafts are not yet attached to the scalp and would be removed together with the crusts.Later, after about 4 to 6 weeks, the grafts will fall out on their own, but by then the important hair dermal papilla, located at the bottom of the hair follicle, will have taken root in the scalp. The Hair dermal papilla cells are responsible for hair growth, formation and cycling.

Will the crusts come off on their own after the surgery?

  • 48 hours after treatment, the first hair care is carried out in the hospital.
  • Starting from the third day after treatment, it is recommended that you wash your hair daily. Incidentally, this also helps very well against any itching that may occur.
  • The donor area of the scalp also requires care, of course, but shampoo is sufficient here and a little rubbing is allowed.
  • Before the 10th day it is recommended not to remove the scabs!
  • 10 days after surgery, it is advised to start carefully removing the scabs by washing and carefully massaging your hair.
  • Leave the crusts that do not want to come off until the 2nd week to allow the skin underneath to regenerate over time. Patiently wait until the remaining crusts fall off by themselves or with a massage after the 15t-16th day.
  • In order to ensure the success of the hair transplant, the scabs must be very carefully completely removed by the 15th -16th day after the surgery.

I have lost some grafts with the scabs, is this normal?

In some cases together with the hair.  Don’t worry please, this is no cause for concern, you will see that new fine hairs begin to grow after a short time.

I am experiencing  facial edema. Is this a cause for concern?

The swelling of the forehead caused by the local anaesthetic and scalp injection is a normal side effect and will resolve on its own within a few days.
The worst swelling may occur on the face between the second and fourth day after treatment.

Why do I lose my hair after the surgery?

Your transplanted  hair may fall after 2-6 weeks because of  the low oxygen transportation in your new channels. This is an usual thing to experience. Grafts will produce new hairs in approximately 12-16 weeks.

Additionally, it is recommended that you avoid heavy lifting, sweat-inducing training and vigorous physical activities for 2 months after the operation.

It is also advisable to abstain from activities such as sauna, sunbathing, and solarium for a period of 3 months after the surgery. High temperatures and humidity are not helpful for healing. It’s best to avoid them.

  • Most important is that you do not hit your head in the early stages, which is why sports is not recommended too soon.

Can I use Minoxidil after my hair transplant?

It is strongly recommended that you stop using Minoxidil (Regain) from the day of surgery until 2 weeks after the procedure.

What factors can affect hair transplant results?

The longevity of a hair transplant may be influenced by factors such as the patient’s hair type, lifestyle, age, and the degree of hair loss.

  • Growth may be reduced due to heavy smoking, diabetes, excessive sun exposure on the scalp or individual anatomical characteristics.
  • The expertise and skill of the surgeon.
  • An unhealthy diet.
  • How your body responds to the transplant – sometimes the transplants do not engraft properly.
  • Stress

For an optimal recovery and to ensure a successful treatment result, we kindly ask you to follow our post-operative guidelines we provide.

Are the results of a hair transplantation procedure long-lasting?

Transplanted hair won’t be lost after hair transplantation. This is due to the usage of follicles from the back and sides of the head, which are not at risk of falling out and are not affected by dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that can cause hair loss.

So it’s possible that the hair will be there for the rest of your life. The hair on the top of the head can all be lost due to the DHT hormone, which is why only hair from the back of the head is used for hair transplants.
You may need another procedure later if you continue to lose your own hair or decide you want thicker hair.

How many hair transplant sessions are required for optimal results?

In most cases, one hair transplant procedure should suffice for patients to achieve satisfactory results.

The surgeon will give a precise evaluation of necessary procedures depending on how much hair you have lost, your age, and how good your donor area is. While some may just need one treatment and medication to stop further hair loss, others may require more treatments as medication is not a solution. The transplanted hair will last forever but the rest of the hair may  still fall out over time. You may need another procedure if you continue to lose your own hair or want thicker hair.

How long will it take to see my hair transplant results ?

Hair transplants take time to show results, and you need to be patient. The complete outcome of the transplant may take 12-18 months.

You may experience some hair loss prior to this time. It’s important not to be disappointed  before you’ve given your hair enough time to regrow.

When should I have my second hair transplant?

Following your first hair transplant, you should wait 12 to 18 months to see the final results. If the desired outcome is not achieved with one procedure, additional sessions may be necessary.

The maximum number of sessions depends on the number of donor hairs available.

Can there be any complications with hair transplant surgery?

Hair transplant surgery is generally safe with minimal complications. Our  transplant surgeon and team is knowledgeable in identifying and preventing complications, as well as managing them if they do arise.  Proper surgical techniques and post-operative wound management can significantly reduce the risk of complications.  Effective planning for surgery involves a detailed consultation with the patient before surgery, which minimises the risk of patient dissatisfaction.

Our main aim is to guarantee the best possible results for everyone. Will it be possible to style my transplanted hair like I would normally?

How will the direction of my hair growth be after the hair transplant?

The direction of newly implanted hair will be the same as the direction of your existing hair, resulting in a natural appearance.  It is important to consider both the quantity of re-implanted hair follicles, as well as achieving a natural hairline and growth direction.

How will the frontal hairline be restored?

Rebuilding the hairline in the front naturally results in a significant improvement of the overall look, since this is visually the most essential part of the hair on the head. The hair transplant specialist gives proper consideration to these details before performing the surgery.

Restoration of a natural-looking hairline:

A low hairline can be just as unnatural as a high forehead. To ensure a natural appearance, it is important to maintain a certain distance between the hairline and forehead muscles. A distance of approx. one centimetre is aimed for between the uppermost forehead muscle and the hairline. It is not possible to implant grafts into the muscle, which means that the hairline can only be lowered to a certain extent.

Are there age limits for a hair transplant?

To book a hair transplant, you must be over 18 years old. However, it is also advisable not to have a transplant until the age of 25. This is because the hairline can change between the ages of 18 and 25, meaning that further treatment may be required as the ageing process progresses.

In principle, hair transplant procedures can be performed on anyone over the age of 18, as long as you are generally healthy and don’t have any complex medical conditions.

Is it possible for women to undergo a hair transplant?

Women are welcome to have hair transplants, but the cause of the hair loss must be fully diagnosed before surgery.

What causes female hair loss?

There are several different reasons for hair loss in women, such as:

  • Dietary changes (rapid weight loss).
  • Being under chronic stress.
  • Use of chemical hair treatments.
  • Undergoing treatments such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
  • Problems with your health, such as thyroid disease, anaemia, deficiency of iron, copper, zinc, selenium, D3 and biotin, etc.
  • Changes in your hormones for example, pregnancy or menopause
  • Some medicines and supplementary medicines (blood pressure medications, gout medications, and high doses of vitamin A).
  • Genetic ( family) predisposition.

A blood test is needed to check for deficiencies of important nutrients.

Is it possible to use body hair for hair restoration?

Body hair is not suitable for a hair transplant as it differs in structure from that of the hair follicles.
In exceptional cases, we only use beard hair only in the crown area if there are not enough donor hairs available to increase the hair density in this area.
